Hotpot

The background is unknown, just as the recipe should be!



Peel and cut in halves three pounds of mealy potatoes, and cut into pieces one pound of lean mutton. Place in a deep stewpot half of the potatoes, then add the meat. Shred an onion finely and add it, together with less than half a teaspoonful of pepper and a heaped teaspoonful of salt. Then put in the remainder of the potatoes, add water just enough to cover the contents, and bake for an hour and a quarter. The top potatoes should be nicely browned. The stewpot should be uncovered while baking. Serve hot direct from the stewpot.
